Gabrielle Beth Jean Leavitt is here!

I'm in love, fulfilled, over the moon, feel incredibly blessed, and so proud.  Our little girl is finally here!  On the day Gabby was born I had a thought that morning.  God has been teaching me the gift of patience for over two years now.  With our struggles to get pregnant and then little miss being 7-11 days over due (depends on the whether we were counting from ovulation date or ultrasound) I'm feeling like this journey has not been in vain.  I cannot tell you how blessed I feel to be cuddling this little miss right now.

It all started with a phone call at 8:30pm on 9/09 from Eloisa asking me what my thoughts were about getting things going tomorrow...I was OVER the moon extactic to hear from her as Thursday morning I had an ultrasound scheduled and to be honest I didn't want to go to it. It was just normal procedure to do one after 41 weeks to make sure the baby's doing well and that there's no stress. I'm not sure why I didn't want to go to it but I didn't and was having anxiety over having to go but didn't think I had an option not to. After chatting with her more we made the decision to go to the birth center in the morning and have my water broke. At 9am on 9/10.  We got to to birth center and Eloisa checked to make sure I would be a good candidate for breaking my water.  All was good so she popped the bags and sent me home with a giant diaper and instructions to take a nap and to get things moving at home.  You see I got about 3 hours of sleep the night before as I couldn't sleep with so much anticipation in the air.  So I did just that.  Got home took an hour and a half nap then went on a walk.  The wind was awesome that day. It was super sunny with a cooling blistery wind. I felt alive being outside and will always think of Gabby's birth on a sunny windy day. After my walk to the end of our block and back I put together my breast pump and did 20 min on off sessions to hopefully start contractions.  It WORKED!  From 1-2pm I had roughly 5 contractions lasting about 30 seconds each.  Eloisa suggested that I keep up my on off sessions to hopefully bring things on a little closer and stronger.  So I did. From 2-3pm I  was having light consistent contractions happening every 3-4 mins lasting roughly 30 seconds.  That's when I thought it'd be good to call Molly, my cousin and Douala, to come over and be with me.  Molly got to the house around 3:39 and I thought it would be a good idea to go for a walk around our little block.  This is where things started to heat up!  My contractions started lasting longer than a minute and were feeling pretty hard.  It took us a half hour to go up and down our block and so we stopped hone to take a little pee.  Since my contractions were feeling good I thought we should do another lap around the block.  Well this didn't last we go to 8th street and I had been having contractions one right after the other with little to no break so I asked Molly to go get Nate.  He was inside trying to get Gwyn to nap.  Molly woke Nate up and we called Eloisa.  I tried to tell her how painful my contractions were but just cried into the phone... Nate took over and wee decided to meet up at the birth center at 6.  We got there a little early and walked around the parking lot until Eloisa got their. My favorite part about all the laboring was that it was super sunny that day and the crazy windy.  It was incredible.  The windy blowing through my hair was distracting and comforting.  I even thought about asking if I could birth outside.  No joke!!  We got inside and Eloisa checked me.  I was a six but there was still a lip on my cervix that was hanging on.  She thought my cervix might have moved to the back of babies head so she was going to leave me be and then possibly manually move my cervix in a few hours.  I spent several sessions on the ball, bed, birthing stool and then thought it'd be nice to try the bath.  I got in the tub around 8:00 and puked.  I started having the most awful back labor and was very uncomfortable.  I decided I wanted out and Eloisa suggested that I try to go potty.  Since my contractions were very strong and right on top of each other it took me quite some time to get to the potty.  After a narly contraction on the potty I stood up and had another contraction at the sink.   That's when it hit me.  Time to push!!  Pushed right there in the bathroom and asked if I could have the baby in the little picket bathroom. Eloisa said yes but that it wasn't ideal.  After thinking about it briefly I agreed and came out of the bathroom and did some more pushing on my way to the bed.  I labored on hands and knees thinking this is how it was going to go down but it wasn't quite working.  Eloisa suggested that I lay on my side.  That was much better.  After two crazy pushes out she came.  Beautiful and quiet.  She had some fluid on her lungs that made her have some garbly cries.  This cleared quickly and all was well :). She also had a perfect knot tied in her umbilical chord.. How crazy is that?!  It didn't really surprise me though with how active she was in the womb.  She came into this world with both Grandmas, Molly, Jessica, Nate, midwives Eloisa and Haley in attendance.  Gwyn really wanted to watch but I think my screams scared her off so she joined us right after Gabby came out.  She was pretty brave!!

Our little Gabby was born at 9:26pm 8lbs 13 oz 20 1/2 inches on 9/10/14.

20th Anniversary

Crazy to think it's been 20 years since we said our vows on that stormy rainy day in March.  This year we had plans to get a hotel in Lynnwood and galavant around Seattle for a few days. We ended up going to Herb Niemans on our anniversary, then to Boundary Bay for lunch the next day and we finished our anniversary weekend kidless in lynden. Amy & Bri ended up coming up and spending two days with mom. Saturday we left for the dahlia tuber sale then to El Suentio Brewery for lunch, a brisk walk in the cold wind out at birch bay and then a drink @ The Mill and dinner at Nami sushi. Our anniversary was filled with love and togetherness. We are so spoiled.

Gestational diabetes

Two weeks ago I took the one hour glucose test and failed it so I had to go due the dreaded 3 hour fasting glucose test.  It's horribly awful. You drink 100 milligrams of sugar on a fasting stomach and then get poked times to test you blood glucose levels.  Since I was positive for GD with Gwyn I went straight to the 3 hour test with Gabby and passed!  I was feeling pretty confident that I'd pass this time and I DID hallelujah!  All my numbers came back within range. I'm still keeping a close eye on my carb/sugar intake as I know how that can pack on the pounds for both baby and me.  So far I'm up 8 pounds. I was hoping to only gain ten thus whole pregnancy and that's still my goal.  I was 10 lbs heavier than I was when I got pregnant with Gabby and I gained 20 lbs with her so I figure that it's only appropriate that I keep my total gain to ten.  MUST KEEP COUNTING CALORIES. Ugh.  I don't find it easy like other women to loose wait after baby. If ...

Down time

All my life I've kept busy. I'm a busy person. I feel more at peace when I'm busy. The one downside to the consitency that is busyness is that often random thoughts will enter my mind about projects, bills, fundraisers, events, aka..other things I could be doing with my time. As quickly as I think of the ideas its on it's way to lala land....I started keeping a journal when I was in college so that whenever one of those ideas would enter my mind I could capture it. My "to do" journal is full of these fun ideas. Right now in my life I have a whole lot of free time that I don't know what to do with and where or where could my journal be...??? I can't find it. I feel lost without it. I have all this time now and I don't know what to do with myself. Before I know it I will be so busy with the agency I wont even have time to write. So I sit here (keeping myself busy) hoping that some of those glorious thoughts will enter my mind. Once I re...
