I'm so glad that January is over! What a rough 30 days and the start to 2011.
First off on the 21 day of the first month of 2011 my Auntie Lori suddenly passed away. She had minor microscopic knee surgery the day before and the doctors believe it was a blood clot that took her from us. That day was a very busy day for me...I think I had 4 appointments and I was running all over Bellingham. I remember getting a text from Brittany saying "your mom called and Aunt Lori is in the hospital in w/ a blood clot" I was waiting in the lobby of one of my appts and she said she would be another minute or two so I called mom. Mom confirmed that Auntie was in the hospital and that she wasn't doing so well. My immediate feeling was that she'll be okay, she's young, healthy, energetic, vibrant, full of life. She probably just didn't take it slow enough in the first 24 hours and the docs will have her out of there in a few hours. I finished my appointment and went back to the office...I texted Nate and tried calling him several times but couldn't get through. It had been over an hour since I talked to Linda and then Nate called. He said, Aunt Lori passed away. I screamed at him. You're not funny! No! I don't believe it! Shut Up! Nate, this is very serious and I don't think your funny!! He was quiet and said this isn't a joke...she's gone. I was in shock. I still haven't really come to full terms with it yet. And neither has Nate. He told me yesterday, I still can't believe she's gone. It just doesn't feel real. That night we all got together at Aunt Betsy's and spent several hours together as a family, crying, sitting around consoling each other as best we could. The next day was Saturday and we all started to feel a little crummy.
Fast forward 24 hours and Nate has a 103 temp. I was feeling ill but no fever so spent the day taking care of two sickies. Monday morning comes around and I have a 102 temp and can barely move...a....muscle. I don't think I've ever been this sick in my entire life. There was a moment that I thought I was going to die. I had a temp for roughly 3 days with chills, sweats, massive headaches, sore throat, I think I slept 18 hours one day. I would wake up just to drink some hot orange juice and take a shower. Nate and I rotated being awake with Gwyn with Nate taking more of the brunt of the work...I tried going to work on Wednesday and ended up coming home sicker than when I started. It was awful to say the least. I'm still not fully recovered but am feeling half way normal...only good thing about all this was Gwyn only had a fever for 12 hours. It was a rough 12 hours but we definitely grateful.
Here's to life and the future!
