Let's back up a few months. It was a miracle this last August that Nate and I both had a day off and the weather happened to be lovely. We decided to eradicate our flower beds of the overgrown weeds. It was a big two day project with lots of dump runs and several sod truck loads. In the end we were left with barren flower beds of lovely sod. After a few weeks I started to miss the weeds that I had grown accustom to seeing and decided that I would replant the plants I had taken out. It was too late by this time to do anything as fall was already in process. You see this year I focused on the lawn..feeding, weeding, mowing, replanting, and mulching. The flower beds were the last thing on my mind. In years past the beds were my thing...but not this year. I didn't even want to pull one weed....so I didn't....thus the two day yard extravaganza.
Now this brings me to Christmas. Yesterday after work I went to go pick up a tree. After being disgusted by how expensive trees have gotten I thought why would I spend all that money just to throw it out in three weeks anyway? Once I added up the tree, a new skirt, and stand it was getting up there. That is when I spotted the lovely living plant area. I know that lots of people buy live trees then plant them after Christmas. If you're like me and don't have the yardage to do this then follow me. I remembered back to my barren flower beds and then back to this dead Christmas tree. I decided on something a little different. I spent all the money I would have spent on the tree on 6 hardy bushes for our yard!!! YEAH! After some finesse and lights I think it turned out great. No more guilt about spending all the money and my yard gets to benefit too!! The best part is the plants all came with a one year guarantee...meaning if I kill them in a year I can bring them back with the receipt and get new ones!!! YEAH!!
